Success for Fastway Couriers

The Fastway group of franchise companies has gone from strength to strength over the last few years, with its progress shown in its latest financial results.

/Franchise PR News/ - DUBLIN, IRELAND, June 10, 2006 - The Fastway group of franchise companies has gone from strength to strength over the last few years, with its progress shown in its latest financial results.

The courier company, which originates from New Zealand, recently announced that the annual turnover of its franchises in 2005-06 was $315 million, which helped it to achieve record profit levels.

Company growth has been accomplished through a well thought-out global strategy over the past six years and it is now in a strong position to develop further. There are currently over 1,400 Fastway Couriers in 12 countries around the world.

Group managing director Brem Ellingham explained: "We commenced a global expansion programme in 2000 which saw us setting up in new countries across Europe and in Canada.

"For the past two years our strategy has been one of consolidation and growing stronger revenues from our existing franchises. Our recent results have certainly vindicated that decision."

The franchiser has a clear structure and detailed training programme in place so that the people who work for it know exactly what their role and tasks are.

Each country where it operates has a national master franchisee to whom Fastway Global, the organisation that oversees the Fastway Couriers [url=http://www.franchisedirect.com]franchise system{/url], grants the rights to operate their franchise system and find franchisees. In some countries there are also regional franchisees to focus on a specific area.

These people are asked to concentrate on staff motivation and development rather than logistics in order to make their courier businesses successful. They handle all administrative duties and let the courier franchisee focus on driving business growth.

Courier franchisees only work within their territory, returning to the depot at regular intervals in order to exchange parcels destined for other areas.

As well as the comprehensive training programme, they receive ongoing support to help with areas such as sales and customer service.

Fastway also shows instant commitment to its courier franchisees by providing a guaranteed minimum income of 500 per week for the first 21 weeks, when they are developing their business.

Summarising the company's good progress, Mr Ellingham said: "Fastway is successful, because we provide an essential service in a clearly defined market niche and our franchise system is focused on high levels of support."

Future plans include further consolidation in areas where the firm believes it has enough courier franchisees but others, like Auckland in New Zealand, have been identified as places where a few more franchisees could operate.
