Color Your World
We all know people are different. We know we think differently from others. But few of us know the why in our differences.
According to Nick Ng of Train Ability Sdn. Bhd., it's in the genes.
/Franchise PR News/ - BALI, INDONESIA, April 04, 2007 - "People see the world from their own perspective. Much of the way we see the world is environmentally wrought, but there is also the genetic factor of how our brains actually process data," says Ng.
He explains information processing is different in each individual, but there are four basic processing systems at play. "Much like IBM and Macintosh computer systems - both work beautifully but they process data differently".
.
To get the best out of people and improve group dynamics we need to understand their genetic data processing software, according to Ng, who says people function better when they can recognize their own and other people's genetically imposed brain software.
"Often miscommunications in groups, or between individuals, simply comes down to how they process information. How they see the world. Imagine wearing spectacles with red lenses. Everything you see is red, so you naturally expect others to see red as you do. But if you are wearing green lens spectacles it would be difficult to imagine a red world. That is how differently we see our worlds and until we can understand this principle, miscommunication results," says Ng.
Motivational speaker and author, Arthur F. Carmazzi of Directive Communication International, has broken down the different brain processors into four groups, red, blue, green and purple brained processors. Carmazzi has developed a psychological profiling tool called the Colored Brain Communication Inventory (CBCI) to identify the differing processors in people. Results are then used in the workplace to develop effective teams that better understand how they and their colleagues see the world.
Carmazzi defines the different processors as:
Red brained people process facts in a logical way and are objective. "Red brained people are pragmatists that process information from a long term perspective, often thinking in the future," says Carmazzi. Red brained people tend to be calm under stress and rapidly note discrepancies in projects and planning. Often these brain processing types are the controllers in organizations.
Green brained people are forward moving. They are innovative risk takers and often leap into action on the spur of an idea. They tend to see The Big Picture from the outset of a project. Green brains often have more than one project on the go at any one time, leaping from idea to idea. "Green brains are often inspirational in a team and flexible as to how projects progress," says Carmazzi.
Purple brains are the data divas of Carmazzi' colored brain theory. They thrive on the fine details and hard facts of a project and will not move forward until every piece of relevant information is gathered, analyzed and filed. "The more information purple brains have the clearer a situation becomes and clarity of purpose gives them direction," says Carmazzi adding purple brains are key in operational functions and very practical in their applications.
Blue brains are empathic, according to Carmazzi. "Because of their emotional base blue brained people process and communicate in feelings," Blue brains are versatile and flexible and capable of playing many roles. Their sensitivity to the feelings of others also gives them the ability to be empathic. They will usually take responsibility if an element of a project goes amiss.
According to Nick Ng, applying Carmazzi' Directive Communication colored brain concepts in the workplace improves group dynamics and communication between individuals and work teams.
"I use Directive Communication methodologies in much of my training work. The Colored Brain Communication Inventory assists people see how they and others process information and how those processors can be very different.
'This grows respect in teams and a greater awareness that success depends on diversity in people. When we get the mix of colors right in a team - placing people in the roles their natural processors are in sync with - there is nothing we can not achieve,"
